Eighth grade students from Escondido Union School District are visiting Palomar Health for hands-on instruction in first aid and the chance to meet health care workers like you!.
The new Middle School Medical Discoveries program connects Palomar Health doctors, nurses and medical staff with local students, inspiring a new generation of healthcare workers through accessible, inspiring and fun medical instruction. All 8th grade students from Bear Valley, Del Dios, Hidden Valley, Rincon and Mission Middle Schools, as well as from Quantum Academy and Limitless Learning Academy, visit the Palomar Medical Center Escondido campus on one of eleven dates this fall.
With workshops on topics such as tourniquet and splinting techniques or the use of defibrillators and CPR, students will learn how to assist a patient until professional help arrives. They’ll hear about infectious disease prevention and understand how COVID-19 patients are cared for.
Palomar Health and Palomar Health Medical Group employees can share their passion for helping others by volunteering with Middle School M.D. Volunteers commit to a half-day of having fun while working with teenagers who are curious about creating a healthier community. RNs, LVNs, RCPs and MSWs will receive PEP points for participating. Staff from other clinical departments with PEP programs will also receive points. Review Lucidoc for details on your specific PEP program.
Email clayton.trosclair@palomarhealth.org with the date you’d like to volunteer and we’ll get back to you with details and an easy guide to teaching the unit.
